Yorkshire Terrier Training- Ways To Train A Yorkshire Terrier

When it comes to trying to train a yorkshire terrier, it can be difficult.  Especially when your Yorkie doesn’t want to pay attention and listen to the command your giving them.  I know how difficult and frustrating it can be.  So, what I’m going to do is share a few tips that will help you with Yorkshire Terrier training.

This way, you will know what you should start doing when you train your dog.

The first thing you should do when training your pup is to make sure you have their full attention.  I know that this is easier said that done.  But to keep their full attention, make sure you have a few treats to give them.  This will make it easier for you to get them to learn the commands and tricks.

Now, when showing them how to do a command (sit, stay, fetch, etc.), you should use positive reinforcement.  This means giving praise and giving them treats.  I would recommend you give one treat for every 4 praises.  And by praise, I mean telling your dog that their doing a great job.

Another tip on training a yorkshire terrier is to use repetition.  This is the only way your Yorkie will learn how to do the tricks and commands your teaching them.  You should train your dog at least 15 to 30 minutes every day.  You’ll be amazed at how fast they learn.

If you’re trying to potty train a Yorkie, the best thing you can do is put them on a schedule.  This is another Yorkshire Terrier training tip.  What I like to do when I train my Yorkie is to take her outside every couple of hours.  This gets her on schedule so that she knows that she’s supposed to potty outside.

When doing this, your dog will look forward to going outside and once they’re out there, they’ll go straight to the grass and potty.  If you want to train your Yorkie to potty on a pad, all you have to do is take your dog to the pad every couple of hours and show them where they need to potty.  Also, taking a small piece of their poop and placing on the pad will work.
