dog training dvd don sullivan

Don Sullivan’s system for The Perfect Dog, does it work?

I just saw an infomercial for a system called ‘The Perfect Dog. It was created by a man named Don Sullivan aka The Dogfather.
Supposedly you can train your dog in mere minutes. It’s a 2 dvd set and comes with a collar that uses the same technique that a mother dog uses on her young.
Has anyone tried this? Heard any good reports? Heard that it is a scam? Anything at all?

I’ve watched the DVD and I do not approve of his techniques or philosophies at all.

He believes (and I think it greatly amusing that it’s cut out of the ad) that negative based training techniques are the only way to properly teach your dog. That positive reenforcement is not training in any way.

What I mean by negative is; when the dog does something wrong (like break a stay, get up from a down, or not obey the command) you will harshly and roughly jerk the collar two or three times (keep in mind that these are modified prong collars and choke chains) and repeat the command or put them back into the proper position. And that when they do the correct thing they are either “rewarded” by no correction or by a simply pet on the head.

When I watched this DVD I was mortified. These dogs looked terrified and about to pee themselves. No dog, through training, should ever be carrying themselves in a scared posture (tail tucked, eyes wide, and practically frozen).

He believes no dog should ever be given rewards via food. “That is teaches them that it’s okay to steal food right from your hand”. I do not believe that and I think it’s a lame justification for using the methods he does.

So if people think that Caesar Millan is using outdated and cruel techniques in his rehabilitations, then this guy is living in the stone age where is training techniques are concerned. Hell, my mother was using these abusive techniques in training (keep in mind, she was young, ignorant and did not know better, and after they told her to hit her dog with a rubber pipe, she dropped out of the class) her dog in the late 70’s!

Don’t waste your money or time with this guy. I say scam and rip off.
